This beautiful collage is called "Golden Ferns."

It is made up of two gelli prints that were cut up into squares, and then set out in a grid pattern, alternating the printed papers. One of the papers was printed with fern leaves. For the other I used layers of stencils to create an abstract pattern. The last layer of paint I used was a shiny metallic gold. which gives the print a beautiful sparkle and shine.

What is gel or gelli printing you may ask?

Gelli printing is a form of printing that uses a flexible plate made of gelatin. A thin layer of acrylic paint is rolled out onto the plate of gelatin, and ferns or stencils or other textural objects are placed on top of the wet paint. Paper placed over the top is lightly pressed, and the paper peeled back, revealing the printed image. Each one comes out unique.

I did a post on my blog with more details and photos about gelli printing. You can see that here:

***This collage is so much prettier in person than my photos could ever capture. Gold metallic paint is difficult to photograph. Depending on how the light shines on it, it can look anywhere from a bright yellow gold to a dull brownish gold. I tried to capture the gold in the collages as best as I could. But know, these collages look so much prettier in person than I was able to capture in my photos.

*Size: Art is approximately 9"x9," mounted on a 12"x12"sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.

*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for the collage and framing it in a 14"x14" or 16"x16" frame, if you like a lot of mat. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
